Obituary of Betty Van Heyst

 

Peacefully at Bluewater Health on June 8th, 2025, Betty Van Heyst passed away at the age of 100. Betty was predeceased by her devoted husband Hubert Van Heyst. Proud mom of John (Karen) Van Heyst, Ian (Brenda Hutchinson) Van Heyst, Robert Van Heyst, William Van Heyst (Karen Cameron), and James (Tracey) Van Heyst. Cherished grandma of Mataya, Miranda, Kassidy, Nathan (Tasha Nafziger), Lukas, Simon, Aidan, Sarah, Kayla, Erin, and Gregory. Adored great-grandma of Nash and Noah Van Heyst, and Camryn Parker. Survived by her brother Peter (Lorraine) Van Loon. Predeceased by her siblings Denny Van Loon, John Van Loon, Cornelius Van Loon, Adrianus Van Loon, William Van Loon, Johanna Van Loon (Akkermans) and Antonius Van Loon. Betty will be missed dearly by her many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

 

Betty grew up on a farm in Holland. As a teenager, she lived through World War II in German occupied Holland. Betty farmed in the Port Franks area for over 30 years. She was very proud of showing cattle at the Royal Winter Fair and across Eastern Ontario. Betty enjoyed spending her time crocheting. She crocheted over 10,000 “pneumonia vests” that were sent by her church to third world countries. Betty loved her family and will be greatly missed.

 

Visitation will be held at DENNING’S OF FOREST on Tuesday June 10th, 2025, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday June 11th, 2025, at 11:30am at St. Chrstopher’s Catholic Church. Burial to follow at Beechwood Cemetery.
