Obituary of David Stanley Watson
David Stanley Watson
May 1939 – August 2025
David passed away August 9, 2025 in the palliative care unit of Bluewater Hospital. David's parents, Elmer and Winnifred, his brother Bill and sister Elaine predeceased him. His sister Vivian and her husband Ron Willerton will miss David greatly.
Music brought David joy. He had a perfect pitch and could identify notes that were played without looking at the piano. David sang in church choirs and quartets. A few weeks before his death, David and two other over-eighty Albany residents sang at an outdoor church service in Petrolia.
One of David's favourite activities was playing cards. Every week he joined the Bridge Group at Port Franks. He enjoyed the challenge of competition and the friendships he made there. Competing in a bridge tournament in Kentucky was a highlight for David. His foursome won first in their division. When David came to Whitby for visits, he was eager for a card game every night. Hearts and Euchre were his favourite games.
David was a member of the Arkona Baptist Church, the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs. Attending meetings and services were an important part of his life.
David loved the farm life. He and his dad worked together for many years raising pigs, cattle and chickens. When David changed to cash crop farming he took pride in producing weed-free fields of soybeans. Even when his land was rented, he cared about favourable weather conditions for the other farmers and appreciated their bumper crops.
David was renowned for his butternut squash. Some years he harvested more than one hundred. David enjoyed sharing with others. He made many trips to the Inn of the Good Shepherd to deliver his produce. Even when David's health was declining, he took his chainsaw to the bush to cut down trees for firewood. He would load up his car and deliver the wood to those who needed it. Wood chips could always be found in his truck and even in his socks.
A graveside service for David will take place Tuesday, September 2nd at 2:00p.m. at Beechwood Cemetery in Forest, followed by refreshments at the Forest Legion Hall. If you have amusing or heart-warming remniniscences of David, you are invited to share them at the luncheon.
If you wish to honour David, your support of the Inn of Good Shepherd would be appreciated. A donation to the Bluewater Health Music Therapy Fund would assist the musicians like the young woman who brought her keyboard to David's hospital room and sang with him.
David's care has been entrusted to Denning's of Forest.
