Obituary of Steven James Lithgow
It is with profound sadness that the family of Steven Lithgow announces his passing on Friday, September 26th, 2025, at the age of 65. Born on August 8, 1960, Steve had just celebrated his milestone birthday surrounded by love.
He is survived by his beloved wife Cathy (Rawlings) Lithgow, and his three children: Lesley Eiden (Christoph) of Edmonton, Cindy Lithgow (Dan) of Forest, and Jason Lithgow (Lindsay Charrette) of Forest. He was the proud Poppa to eight amazing grandchildren who adored him: Mason, Max, Gabe, Austin, Dan Jr., Nevaeh, Sawyer, and Rory.
Steve left an unforgettable imprint on all who loved him — especially those who came into his life in the last 14 years. One of those people was Mohamed, whom Steve lovingly called his “angel” and whom the entire family now considers one of their own. Mohamed worked tirelessly to help Steve regain the ability to swallow and eat real food again — something many thought impossible after Steve’s brain injury. But Mohamed never gave up, treating Steve with dignity and determination, never as a patient — always as a person.
Together, they succeeded. For four and a half years of those 14 years, Steve could once again enjoy normal food. When he was finally able to eat his favorite cheese sandwich, both he and Mohamed celebrated.
Steve was a quiet man, a lifelong workaholic, and someone who would drop everything for his children, grandchildren, or anyone who needed him. Though humble, he never missed a chance to brag about his kids. He found peace in simple things: family, books, and quiet strength. He loved to read, especially the works of Louis L’Amour — stories of grit and resilience that felt like they were written about him. His strength in the face of adversity, his fearless nature, grace, and courage inspired everyone around him.
When asked to describe Steve, Mohamed offered words that couldn’t be more fitting:
"Steve had this smile — more of a smirk — that, when you saw it, you just had to smile back. I swear that smirk, and his eyes, were saying ‘F you’ to the world." I loved him and will never forget him.
Steve was predeceased by his mother Ruth Lorraine Wever, his second mother Vera Rawlings, and his father Ted Rawlings. Also predeceased by his brother Charlie Rawlings, and his best friend Timothy Bell.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Rev. Chris O’Reilly, who was with Steve and his loved ones at the end, and Rev. Jeff Smith, for his support when it was needed most.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Algarva Charities (Alhambra) – 168.
