The love I have for you Gramps Will never fade away. I will think of you, my special friend Throughout each passing day. I will walk into the room And see your empty couch; Although I know you are resting, I will feel your presence there. The memories of your laughter, Your warm and loving smile, Your eyes so full of happiness, Your heart that of a child. Memories are forever Be they laughter or of tears, Memories I will treasure Through all the forthcoming years. Until we meet again, my angel....

While reflecting upon this past week, I wrote down a few of my memories I remembered as a child/adult growing up on the Purcell farm. We may not have been told "I love you" often, but we always knew we were. - eat the fat off those pork chops, it's good for you - being allowed to cut open the fertilizer bags, and help empty them into the corn planter - making Dad's lunch, often a Peanut butter and Jam sandwiche and sharing a ride to work in 1979 -walking down the aisle on my wedding day, and Dad asking me if I was ready - taking supper out to the fields during planting and harvesting times - medical appointments the last couple of years - watching Dad wash dishes the last few months, while Mom recovered from foot surgery - having Dad hold my 4 children as babies - sleigh rides after supper on a cold winter night - planning their surprise 25th wedding anniversary party. Just a few ............

June & Family So sorry to hear of John's passing. I have such great memories of the Purcell family visits with Mom & Dad. Lots of fun & laughter (and teasing from John & my dad, Ted Kelly). None of us kids had a chance with those two together. We always left well fed & well entertained & looking forward to the next visit. Memories are a wonderful thing. Thinking of you Kim

Please accept my most sincere condolences to the entire Purcell family.I was lucky enough to have had the opprotunity of knowing him in private life as well as a fellow co-worker many years ago. There was no difference,he was the same man.I used to love riding shotgun with him on road trips to Blenheim because I always knew where we were going to stop, the Morpeth Diner, for coffee,a piece of pie and good conversation. And for good measure, stopped there on the return trip too.I am blessed to have known him.Again sorry for your loss Mrs.Purcell, all the girls and Greg.

Dear June and Family: I've just heard this news this morning, and I'm so sorry to hear about John's passing. Although we haven't seen all of you for a few years, I remember John very well, from our visits at your house with mom and dad (Ted & Gerry) when we were young. The mention of his name brings back memories of your loving, happy family at your country home, and John's fun-loving personality - always laughing, joking, and truly enjoying his family and his life. My deepest sympathy goes out to all of you. Jenny Lynne

Dear Aunt June, Peg, Jo, Deb, Wen, Pat, Pen & Greg. My prayers are with you and your families during this difficult time. I will never forget the many wonderful memories I have with Uncle John. As a child, he would never miss the opportunity to nudge me, pull my pony-tail or pinch my arm and as an adult we shared some great conversations. I will miss him.

I met John over 33 years ago at the Old Rodney Inn. My fondest memory will always be his smile. He always had a big smile and a hello every time we saw each other. Even after not seeing him for many years we met in the restaurant in Rodney and he knew right away who I was and we had a little chat reliving memories of June Lewis and Harold Lamb. I will always remember him fondly.

18 or so years ago I had the pleasure of meeting John over the left field fence of the ballpark in Wardsville. I played left field for the "pink ladies" and John would to stop by weekly and tease me about the bats swooping about my head in left field after dark. I called him "Granpaw" and he called me "Cheeky". John's sense of humour, ever present smile and "nice catch" comments are part of some fond memories of my ball playing days. I can only imagine how much he will be missed by those who had the pleasure of having him in their lives daily. My deepest sympathies. Anna Kalmbach

My sister Pam and I grew up on the corner of Gordon and Oak St., Bothwell across the street from cousin June and John and their growing family. What a great time we had--pushing toddlers in babybuggies, skating on my Dad's man-made skating pond, listening to the Beattles on 45's. When June and John moved to the farm, they graciously had us out for sleepovers. At our house we always had a meal consisting of hamburger (in many styles) but at the Purcell farm we had STEAK! Thanks for the memories Love you all Janey

I met John almost 7 years ago when I met his granddaughter Amanda. Even though I was a "newcomer", like most people in his life or that had entered in, he always accepted you with generosity and kindness. He had to have been the nicest man I have ever met. He was loving to his family, friends and strangers. If you were cold, he'd give warmth. If you were hungry, he'd give food. If you were offering a hand shake, he'd give a smile. You knew his smile was genuine. Even when I had first met John and he asked my name, I told him and until the last time I saw him he referred to me as 'Jim'. I never corrected him on this ever. Why, I had to much respect for him to tell him he was wrong. I'll miss you John.

If you know our family ,then you know that there are alot of us.One could say enough to field a baseball team. One of my favorite memories with my dad was having a ball game on our front yard after a good Sunday nights supper. On our front yard we had many trees , so we would used them for our game. One tree for first base, another tree for 3rd and usually a shoe for second and for home. The games would go on forever or until it was to dark to see the ball.We loved it when dad would get up to bat.He was a switch hitter. This meant that he could hit that ball right handed or left.So when it was his turn up, he did hit that ball, almost always to the road .This sending all of us running after it hoping to get him out at home. I can still see Dad with his big work boots on,running in slow motion around those bases and all of us after him .This is one of my many great childhood memories with my dad.I love you and will miss you Dad forever xox your sixth daughter Penny xo

June & family - Our sincere sympathy in the loss of a wonderful man. A precious memory I have of John is one that I will never forget. Newly weds we were, new stove, new everything, John stopped in for a drink after work. Being the "susie ms homemaker" I thought i was, cooking homemade french fries in a pot of oil. Well, if i did not get the oil too hot and yes, oil boiling all over my new stove etc. All I remember is John standing up, his mouth wide open, shocked look on his face and never spilled a drop of this drink that was in his hand!!! You just had to be there, but is was one of the most memorable moments. John teased me about it every time I saw him, of course with that big grin, he would say "are you cooking french fries today?" He will certainly be missed. Our hearts go out to all of the family. Gary & Ann xxxooo
