I think that everyone who knew Olive knew that one of the places she spent the most time was "North Lambton Lodge". Hardly a day went by when Olive didn't pop by. To check on the Tuck Shop, have a look at what Skeeter and Bud needed, visit someone who needed a little chat, let us know something we needed to look into, or just to say Hello. Under Olive's leadership the NLL Auxiliary was able to provide many extras that our budget could not support. Most recently our new Pavilion, a huge down payment for the new Bus, blanket warmers so that people can wrap up in warm towels after a bath or have a warm blanket on a chilly night. Olive was also Chairperson of our Spiritual Care Committee. She worked hard to make sure that the Spiritual needs of the people living at the Lodge were met. She wore her own faith on her sleeve and it was easy to understand why this role was so important to her. One of my best memories is of her voice carrying all the way to my office when the Sing Song group was singing hymns on Wednesday mornings. "Will Your Anchor Hold" must have been one of her favourites because I could always hear her above the crowd in that one. I used to tease Olive that she was a "full service" volunteer. Every new resident got a gift and a welcome visit from Olive and Joan and she always came for Memorial Services we held at the home to wish each person a fond farewell. Attending these services was difficult for her since Len's passing, and I know that she struggled with her decision not to come. When my role at the Lodge changed from Supervisor to Manager, Olive was there for me. She provided me with history when I needed it, support, encouragement and guidance. The first project we worked on together was hosting all the Auxiliaries in our Provincial Association's Region 1. This was a big undertaking for our small group, but the ladies wanted to show off our newly renovated Home and they did a spectacular job with Olive at the helm. NLL has lost a dear friend. I will miss her beautiful singing voice, her leadership, guidance and her witness of her faith daily. I have tucked many memories away in my heart and know that many of the residents and staff have done the same. She has left us a legacy and we will work to carry it on.

We are thinking of you and praying for the family at this time. Olive was a very special lady who always had a smile on her face and kind words on her lips. We will miss Olive especially at dog walking time as that is how we met as neighbours on Townsend Line as well as on this side of town. We shared our love of our special little friends.

My sincere condolence to your family. What I always remember about Olive was how supportive she was of her children. This has and will always leave a lasting impression on me. Many years ago we all went to Toronto to support the pride parade. I watched Olive with her son when the PFLAG group marched down the street. It was this moment that I saw Olive shine as a mother. It left me in tears and I have never forgotten that. Whenever there is press or talk on the pride parade I truly think of this moment. Olive was proud of her children and she certainly let the world know it. I love you Larry and am thinking of you at this time.

I will never forget the summer that I spent with Aunt Olive and Uncle Len. In June just before starting high school, they asked if I would like to go home with them to Portage. Little Len was 4 years old and Lawrence was just 2. We had such a great summer. We camped and went horse back riding. Aunt Olive was sick a lot that summer and turns out that she was expecting Leigh Ann. We had many great visits and we will miss her so much. She always had hugs and smiles and encouraged any scheme that we hatched. Every time I see blueberries I remember the trip with my Mom and Dad to visit at Pettawawa. Mom and I had been sipping blueberry wine and put the part bottle in with the blueberries we picked. It popped open and marinated our blueberries. While we were at Olive's she frequently made trips to the downstairs fridge - we found out later to enjoy our great tasting blueberries. Love and Hugs from us to you.
