Obituary of Christopher Aenton DeGroot
It is with great sadness that we announce the tragic and sudden passing of Christopher DeGroot on October 31st, 2020 at the age of 31. Born in Sarnia, Ontario on June 1st 1989, he was the beloved only son of Andy and Hélène DeGroot.
Chris was officially a Millwright by trade, but was also an extremely talented carpenter, mechanic, musician, inventor and handyman. Chris had a heart of gold and will always be remembered as one who would generously give of his time and talent to help anyone in need, while expecting nothing in return.
Chris was a true adventurer, lived life to the full, and had a special love for animals, especially his dogs. He creatively found ways to long board, dirt bike, dance, swing from trees and many other thrilling activities. He easily made friends as he brought so much joy and hilarity to every moment. Chris loved being out on the water where he felt most alive and free! He died in a sailing accident doing what he loved.
Chris was predeceased by his grandparents Florian Bernard, and Anton and Ida DeGroot. He will be deeply missed by his parents; sister Jocelyne Furtado (Lee), their daughter Ariane; sister Michelle DeGroot, her daughter Camilla; sister Corrie DeGroot, her daughter Nadine; grandparents Ghislaine and Bernard Goure; aunts, uncles and cousins; special friends: Rene Lavallee, Nicky Beatty, cousin John DeGroot, and many other friends whom he referred to as “brothers.”
