My friendship with Connie started at Lambton College and continued to grow through our years at UWO and beyond. It was always a fun time with Connie, and I often felt she was a motivating, bright , energetic force in my life during those years. Though we lost touch for a few years, for many natural reasons, ( careers, child raising etc.), it was so great to have a reconnection with Connie, preCovid. We talked about having more of those! I was shocked and saddened to hear of the quick, aggressive illness that led to her passing.
My sincere condolences to Steve, Hunter and Cole as well as all of Connie and Steve's families.

mercy for the video of Conny. I give my condolances to the whole family. it must be a great lost. But at the other hand I have seen there were many joyfull days for her being bizzy with friends and family in nice places with lot of nature.
I myself was born in 1955. we arrive a age that it can happen. that's the reality. we must try to give this death a place and go on with our lifes as long as the Lord give us the time.

Dear Steve, Hunter and Cole, Dear Family,
We send you our sincere condolences. It is hard to imagine what you are going through in the last few weeks. It is just a bit more than three weeks ago Wilma told me about Connie’s diagnose.
We will bear Connie in our mind as the phlegmatic and rational cousin from Canada. Always in a good mood and with a strong sense of humor. And enjoying the pleasure of teasing the other in a nice way. I can remember very well the dancing and partying at the several events we had with Connie in Holland, amongst others the 25 year anniversary of my/our parents.
We wish you; Steve, Hunter, Cole and family a lot of strength in the coming days to bear the grief, but also for the coming period to find a way to deal with the loss.

Got to know Con best spending a few weeks hoeing in the bog together. Mom and Dad Smeekens invited me to be her “bog sister” while some of the family had their turn taking a visit to the Netherlands. Her dedication to family, and her strong work ethic are just two of her amazing qualities. Experiences like that had a big impact on my life. Forever grateful Con!
