Obituary of Eric Robert Shafer

With family by his side at University Hospital on December 31, 2024, Eric Shafer passed away at the age of 81. Eric was the husband of Barbara Shafer. Proud father of Samuel Arthur William Shafer and Professor Maxwell Eric Robert (Professor Ahilya Sawh) Shafer. Eric is survived by his brothers-in-law Bill Stumpf and Joe Kuglin, nephew Jonathan (Pam) Stumpf, and extended family. Eric was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Margaret Shafer and his sisters Mary Kuglin and Eileen Stumpf. 

Eric was a well-respected high school teacher in Forest for many years. He will be remembered fondly by his students. Eric loved to spend his time antiquing and going to yard sales. He was an avid reader. Eric enjoyed being involved in local politics and staying up to date with federal politics. 

Visitation will be held at DENNING’S OF FOREST on Monday January 6, 2025, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. Words of remembrance will be shared at 3:00pm.

In memory of Eric, donations may be made to Bluewater Health in Sarnia, University Hospital in London, the Diabetes Association, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Alternatively, the family invited those who want to nurture a Pawpaw or Hickory tree in the future.
