Obituary of Maria Josephina Devet

Peacefully, with her family at her side, Mary was called home to her eternal rest on April 15, 2016 at Strathmere Lodge, Strathroy. Beloved wife for 28 years of the late Casey Devet (1979). Mary will be sadly missed by her children Lucy Hendrikx (Louis) Parkhill, Joanne Slaats (Harry) Dutton, Frank Devet (Elsie) Arkona, Alda Bongers (Jerry) Forest, Henry Devet (Betty) Arkona, and Nancy Van Kessel (Harry) Watford. Cherished Grandmother of 21 and great grandmother of 33. She will be fondly remembered by her sister, Jeannette DeVet and her many nieces and nephews, in both Canada and the Netherlands. Predeceased by her son John (1973), son-in-law Martin Verberk (1997), grandsons Christopher Bongers (1982) and Jesse Devet (1989), and her siblings Johanna Hendriks, Piet Hendriks, Tony and Theresia Hendriks, Regina and Tony Cornelissen, Lena and Jan Van Zon, Terre and Lies deVet, John DeVet, Anna & Piet van Beek. Visitation will take place at Denning’s of Forest, 9 James Street South, Forest on April 17, 2016 from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Christopher’s Church on April 18, 2016, at 11:00 am. Reception to follow immediately at the St. Christopher’s Church Hall. Private family burial in Arkona Cemetery to follow. For those who wish, memorial donations to The Canadian Diabetes Association, The Canadian Cancer Society or charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
