Obituary of Gerry Veens

Gerry H. Veens passed away peacefully on September 8th at Victoria Hospital in London at the age of 85. He was welcomed lovingly by his wife Irene Veens (Peters) who passed away in April of 2016. Adored Father of Joanne and Steve Atchison, Henry Veens, Bernice and Dwayne (2013) Cadman, Wilhelmina Waters and Ron VanDamme, Vicki and Gerry Lynn, Marion and Kevin Somer and Jerry and Susan Veens. Much loved Grandfather to Julianne, Andria, Traves, Rebecca, Michael, Ashley, Kelsey, Daniel, Curtis (2000), Cassandra, Hannah, Jonathan, Jeremy, Joseph, Samual, Reanna, Samira, Abigail, Lindsay, Brandon, Amelia, Rachel, and Nicholas and Great-grandson Carter. Brother to Jan (Truus), Theo (Wil), Annie (Wim), Hank (Ineka) of the Netherlands. Brother-in-law to Mary, Wilma, Henry (Jacoba), Joe, Tony (Mary), Bert (Eliz), Andy (Geraldine) and Joanne (Terry). Pre-deceased by brothers and sisters Dina and Theo Disveld, Ada and Theo Bosman, Bert and Riek Veens and Bert Centen. Pop was an extremely humble man but was also known as the un-proclaimed "Apple King" of the Arkona fruit belt. In his later years he often reminded his loved ones as they parted ways "Don't work too hard” . Visitation will be held at DENNINGS OF FOREST, 9 James Street South, Forest, on Sunday September 11, 2016 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, September 12, 2016 at 11:00 am, at St. Christopher's Catholic Church, 68 Union Street in Forest. Interment to follow at the Arkona Cemetery.
