Marcel was an integral piece of the SJF community. My sons knew him well and will remember him fondly. At school, the arena, or about town, Marcel always took the time to get to know kids (not just my own), greet them and show genuine interest in their well being. He went beyond his job to make everyone feel connected and cared for. Those shoes will not filled. The Tichenoff's are thinking of you 2 (Donna and Melanie). Marcel will be missed.

Sorry to hear the passing of Marcel, I have many fond memories of growing up in Forest. The one I recall the best was when Earl (Shaky) Chaffe, Ron (Mickey) McFarlane, myself and Marcel travelled to Vienna Austria for the 1977 World Hockey Championship, it was a trip I will never forget. We are deeply saddened by the news of Marcel's passing. Marcel was such a humble and genuine person. If you were fortunate enough to know Marcel, and spend time with Marcel, then he inevitably made you laugh and smile. We always looked forward to hearing his humourous retelling of the adventures of my mom (Francoise), Donna and Mel. Whether they were going to yard sales, shoe shopping, or staying up half the night working on the latest craft - Marcel would have everyone laughing with his version of what went on.

Mr. DeSchutter was a bright spot in any visit to St. John Fisher. He was always quick with a joke and a smile, proud of his school and invested in the students. He made my son feel special right from the start with the unique nickname he gave him in kindergarten. The halls of the school will be a little less sunny in days to come. I am so very saddened to hear of the sudden death of such a great husband, father, son-in-law, brother, uncle and friend.
Marcel has always put a smile on my face with his quick wit and friendly personality. He never forgot his nickname for me (Boz) and even though time would pass where we wouldn't see each other much, it was always enjoyable to chat and catch up as though no time had passed. We were deeply saddened to hear that Marcel had passed away. He had a huge heart and made a point of knowing each and every student's name at SJF. It is sad to hear that one of my childhood friends (and neighbour) from Forest has passed away. I remember countless hours playing ball hockey and “kick the can”, down the street from the DeShutter home at the old Liquor Store. Great fun.
However, what I really remember, is how Marcel always took care of my nephew Terry when I was not around. He made school safe and Terry’s world a better place. That’s just Marcel, that is the true character of this man; taking care of people who needed a helping hand.

It us with a very heavy heart that I try to get my head around this tragic news. I will always remember Marcel with a twinkle in his eye and a cheery smile that warmed your heart and made you feel special. He was easy to talk with and I treasure the stories we shared about his family coming up to our farm in Bayfield to jump down into piles of hay in the mow or to climb apple trees in the old orchard where we would sit in amongst the branches eating green apples till we felt sick. Picking stones and pulling some milkweed or piling wood were jobs he would join us in doing. Playing hide and go seek till it got too dark outside to see each other ......playing monopoly and rummy or rumoli as we listened to the adults banging the kitchen table next to the wood stove hollering "your euchred !!!" Oh I guess those were the good ole days!!! As we grew up and had homes of our own he and you, Donna and Melanie always made me welcome when I stopped by. He was a very sentimental guy who told me of getting a big stone from the Wild family farm as a childhood memory for his garden. Oh boy!!! I will treasure these memories and wish the family comfort in the days ahead knowing he is home with family members and loved ones who went before him...such as his father in law who just last month went to his heavenly home. So sorry to hear of Marcel's passing. sending condolences to his family. I was so fortunate to work with Marcel at SJF. He was always ready to greet everyone with a big smile. I will remember our laughs and his jokes, he liked to share, especially with his kindergarten friends. RIP Marcel.

Donna, Mel and family,
I am so shocked and saddened to hear of your loss. Marcel was a wonderful, kind and caring man who has left way too soon. I remember 41 years ago , Marcel and Gloria were my first visitors in hospital after Adam was born. Adam had many early surgeries and they brought little blue "boxing gloves" that went with him every time he was in hospital and we still have those gloves. I have never forgotten that kindness. My thoughts and prayers are with you . May your memories comfort you now and in the future.
